Concept Description
Lauttasaari bridge is a 317-metre long reinforced concrete deck composite girder bridge, which connects Lauttasaari island to central Helsinki. The bascule bridge, which is rarely opened nowadays, was completed in 1969. The brigde has a pedestrian and cycle path, providing a scenic route westwards from mainland central Helsinki. The horizontal beams are lit up, highlighting the silhouette of the bridge especially when viewed from out at sea, and the lit columns provide a gateway out to sea. The lighting is simple and timeless.
