Concept Description

Artist Pero Luostarinen’s sculpture Yliopistoportti (University Gate) stands on Schildt square in front of the university library. It is an homage to Wolmar Schildt, the father of the original idea of having a university in Jyväskylä. It also symbolises the establishment of the university and its meaning to the city. The sculpture works as a gate to Seminaarinmäki campus area. It was temporarily illuminated for 2006 Light in Jyväskylä event. The lighting of the sculpture glowing in blue received such good feedback that a decision to illuminate it in a permanent fashion was made.
