Stockmann Department Store

Year: 2012

City: Helsinki

Country: Finland

Concept Description

The Stockmann Department Store is a central landmark in Helsinki city centre. The department store was completed in 1930 and nowadays it is protected as a culturally historic building. The department store has gone through a number of expansions through the years to occupy the whole block as an architectonical synthesis of the parts built in different times representing their own era. The external lighting of the building was renewed in 2012 and the old neon tube lights were replaced with more energy-efficient LED lights. The most impressive feature of the façade lighting is the coherent horizontal lines. The lights can be programmed to adapt the lighting of the façade for different events and occasions with dynamic colour effects.
