Concept Description
The route from the city centre to the new Jätkäsaari residential and business area ends at Länsilinkki bridge. The unconventional bridge was designed by sculptor Martti Aiha and it is also a notable piece of environmental art. The bridge spreads widely through the space, making the underpass invitingly spacious and connecting it visually to the beautiful square in a very pleasant way. Creating a sense of safety was the focus when designing the lighting in the underpass. The inviting shape of Länsilinkki underpass is a departure from traditional ideas. It is also very well lit and the spacious tunnel provides a clear view to the other end. The lighting also brings out the design of the bridge even during darker hours.
