Year: 2015

City: Helsinki

Country: Finland

Concept Description

”Et in Arcadia ego” – Even in paradise, you remain mortal The first wooden theatre building in Helsinki, Arkadia, was located in the Arkadia villa area, next to the current Paasikivi plaza, between 1861 and 1908. The area received its name from a highly valued Greek region called Arkadia, which was praised as the haven of happiness and utopian harmony during the antiquity. The lighting installation received its inspiration from the splendour of this imaginary paradise. The Achaeans of ancient Greece, the characters of a Russian theatre company and the jesters of the Swedish theatre reveal the court below to those passing by. These characters follow people’s movements and open a window to a world, where stories are shown to the public through changing reflections and colours.
